801SCAN is a trademark of Terzon Systems Inc.
Thank you for your interest in the 801SCAN system. This demo, like
the actual working program, is a copyrighted work. Unlike the the actual
working version however, you are free to copy this program for anyone
who is interested in examining it.
To run the program, type 801AD. It is best to run it from your
hard-disk if you have one. To install the demo on your hard drive:
(Instructions assume C: hard drive, A: floppy.)
1. Create a new directory C:> mkdir 801
2. Go to your new directory C:> cd 801
3. Copy all the 801 files C:> copy a:*.*
You can then run the program by typing 801AD. Note that you must
always be in the directory where your database/help files are (801)
to run the program.
Release Notes:
Take a minute to read these items, they may be of use in certain
installations.
1. You should have a line in your config.sys file (on the boot disk
root (base) directory:
FILES=16
The 801SCAN program uses many files, if you don't have this set
up you may get a "Warning: No help file!" or other failure.
Use a text editor to add the line if needed. (Note: 16 is the
minimum recommended, you can set it higher if you like.)
Note: you must reboot after reseting this value before it will
take effect!
2. A command-line option, /HD, allow the program to run in about 24K less
memory. If you are short on memory, would like to run more TSRs,
or etc., this option will cause the program to read help as needed
from the disk file instead of loading it all into memory.
3. Another option, /BW will force the program into black & white (mono)
mode. Some laptops (most Toshibas for example) use CGA-type adapters
with their LCD displays. This causes a problem for programs using color,
since it looks to the program as though there is color capability.
The 801 program will use color highlights that won't show up at all
on the CGA B & W display without this option, making menu choices and
other functions impossible. If you specify this option, the 801 program
will reset the video mode to it's initial state when it exits.
This option may also be useful for those using a monochrome monitor
with a color video adapter.
NEW FEATURES!
EVENT LOGGING. This feature allows you to track every carrier detection
while scanning or searching. Use the Activity-Event-Logfile screen
to select a LogFile (EVENT database). Use the Parameters screen "Enable
Activity/Event Logging" field to turn EVENT logging on. As you scan or
search, each signal detected is logged to the EVENT LogFile. The frequency,
time carrier was detected, duration of carrier are all saved in the EVENT
LogFile.
The EVENT LogFile is binary (to save space!). To view the EVENTs logged,
use the Activity-Event-Report menu. Select a report type, the LogFile(s)
to use, and run the report. Then you can view the report in a window.
EVENTs are "complete" when a frequency that was known to be active is found
to be clear. When you stop scanning or searching, all currently active freq-
uencies are "closed out", since you may never visit the freq again. If an
EVENT is closed out in this way, a + sign will appear next to the duration
in the report.
HISTORY WINDOW
The History Window shows the last 14 signals detected, in top down order.
This info is always being recorded by the program, so you can enter this
screen any time you want and see the last 14 signal descriptions.
DEMO OPERATION NOTE!!!!
If you change your link speed to <L>ow on the Parameters screen, you
may notice that keystrokes are accepted slowly. This is only true on
the demo program - the real system does NOT behave this way. This is
a side effect of trying to simulate the link timing.
